Island vs club feud fizzles

The feud is officially over.
With new ownership running the Docks – now called Polson Pier – the decade-long battle between the club and solace-seeking Toronto Island residents has fizzled, the Ontario Court of Appeal ruled yesterday, declaring the case "moot."
The club's thumping bass and late-night patio parties are gone, replaced with a nearly soundproof indoor concert venue and a hall often rented for wedding receptions and bar mitzvahs.
"They run their business, and they don't bother their neighbours, and everyone's happy," said islander Lynn Robinson.
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and City of Toronto were in court to try to have a 2007 ruling – allowing the club to keep its licence, in light of evidence it had addressed complaints – overturned, to set a legal precedent. But because of the new ownership, the court decided the case was no longer relevant.
"All the parties worked together in good faith, and it looks promising," said Rosanne Giulietti, legal counsel for the city.
